RISE

The beginning of the year is always naturally a time of reflection and resolution. It is often said that you can’t know where you are going unless you know where you have been. Moving into 2017 has been deep for many of us. I for one, am grateful for the road I’ve traveled and hopeful for the journey that lies ahead.

One of the resolves I have committed to this year is that of positive energy.

Positive defined as a good, affirmative, or constructive quality or attribute.

And

Energy defined as the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity.

The intention of living in and spreading as much positive energy with the world that I can.

Whether we realize it or not everything we do is connected, and has an effect on something else that surrounds us. If we know this to be true, then the energy we give to our actions therefore directly determines the life we live. Think of it in the way of cause and effect and the bottom line being that we have more control over our destiny than we often think of or give ourselves credit for.

Keeping it simple and succinct as we move forward, my first call to action as we embark on the New Year is for you to envelop your own sense of POSITIVE ENERGY in all you do. It’s easy to get down and out about what’s not happening or what's going wrong but imagine creating space in the world where we embrace those times with contrasting positivity. Space where we choose not to pick up the negativity and baggage of others. Illuminating ourselves in the most sustainable way.

While we can’t control other peoples actions, what we can control is how we respond or react to them. The other day I posted the status DON’T FEED THE ANIMALS! A friendly reminder not to get sucked into the negativity of life. A phrase a good friend once used in conversation with me several years back and something that just stuck.

If it’s something that sticks with you, I implore you to adopt it into your arsenal of mantras and friendly reminders that keep you moving forward.

One exercise I like to play around with is journaling about ways I can choose to react when confronted with negativity. With so many different scenarios that have the potential to arise, I find it helpful to have a few bullet proof ideas, on hand, in order to circumvent falling into any traps. For instance you may brainstorm on different ways to say thank you when someone confronts you in a judgmental way instead of immediately getting defensive. Replying with thank you for your candor, or I appreciate your well thought out point of view. If you find someone saying something that doesn’t align with your value system, instead of immediately going on the attack, maybe you brainstorm around ideas that allow you to remain calm and remove yourself from the situation in a safe and unaffected way. Not giving energy to anything that isn’t going to serve you.

Give it a try this week and see what you are able to come up with for your own tool kit and start putting the ideas to work.

If we truly want to do better and be better it is up to us individually to rise above the noise and chaos that exists trying to bring us down. To be the leaders we are all capable of being.

It won’t be easy but it will be interesting to watch over time the affects you personally have over your own life and the world around you.

If there is one thing we learned over the course of 2016 it should be that; nothing is the end of the world but, the end of the world.

So this year I say rise. Rise and fly high.

Light begets light, but it has to start somewhere. So why not with you.
