Community
As much as we are taught to be independent, think for ourselves, do for ourselves, be ourselves it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t encourage and implore the idea of collaboration within our lives. If there is one thing in life I know, it is that no one gets anywhere alone. Community is a key factor in creating a full and purposeful life. Without it, it’s nearly impossible to cover the necessary ground to move forward. As the NYC marathon approaches this weekend I’ve been doing

Ownership
Ownership is an interesting word that means very different things to different people. By definition it is the act, state, or right of possessing something. This definition carries a lot of weight and honestly speaking can be very scary. Most of the time when we think about ownership we think about large material possessions. Such as a car or a house, boat or company. The “something” in the definition always tends to be something tangible that takes time to achieve by way of

Fear of Failure
I know the overall foundation of the work I talk about and live by rests on the idea of change and although I think it is something we all encounter it’s not always something that we are excited for or free to accept as a part of the journey to move forward. Honestly speaking change is scary. It’s cause to break out of our normal routine and requires risk. Something a lot of us aren’t willing to give into. But how do we expect things to ever be different if we aren’t willing

Gratitude
I initially brainstormed around several different topics that I wanted to discuss this week but after a recent conversation with my mom there’s one fundamental element that I can’t seem to shake and that is one of gratitude. With all this talk about change and cultivating the life you want we often get distracted from all that we currently have and the foundations that allow us to propel forward in the ways which we possibly could never imagine. The idea of being grateful for

Patience
There’s a saying that goes: Trust the timing of your life. It is something I heard a long time ago that has seemingly stuck with me, for good reason, because as we all know things don’t always go according to plan. No matter how much we outline and set our goals there are always those things we wish would happen that don’t. The things we think we deserve or want that we don’t get, the satisfaction of having it all. But how does keeping this idea or concept in mind really make

Effective Communication
This weekend one of my dearest high school friends was in town visiting and although we hadn’t seen each other in about 6 months or so, with only a few quick phone calls here and there or text correspondences in between, it was as if we hadn’t skipped a beat. You know that feeling of picking up right where you left off no matter the time or distance. One of effortless communication where there are no rules and expectations. It’s not about who calls who the most or touches bas

Quality over Quantity
In one of my more recent posts I made reference to the idea of being busy doing nothing. And although this isn’t an ideal feeling or state to be in I think it is safe to say that we have all been there at some point or another in our lives. Like myself, I think most people like to make others happy by being fairly agreeable or somewhat passive when it comes to doing things. It can be argued that people like us better when we say “yes” and we can be seen as more of a “team pla

Strength
Most often when we think of strength we think of physical aptitude. How much muscle mass someone has stored to exert physical energy. Common images that come to mind might be flexed arms, a six pack, or strong legs. Or you might think of someone lifting weights or some other heavy object. The dictionary defines strength first and foremost as the quality or state of being physically strong. Secondly it defines it as the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force. Final

Leveraging Energy
I’ve done a lot of talking about the act of doing in the last few weeks… setting Goals, making them S.M.A.R.T., stretching beyond your normal limits, designing accountability, etc… As important as those elements are toward becoming the best version of yourself the state which you are living is just as important. I like to think of this as your energy. Similar to the energy that it takes for electricity to power things up, cars to run, we as people carry around and are fueled

Stretch
Now that we are beginning to master the art of S.M.A.R.T. goals I want to delve more into the idea of stretching ourselves. The A in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Achievable and here I mentioned that your goals should give you cause to stretch. Meaning you should feel challenged. The idea that there is a sense of required effort that needs to be made in order for the goal to be accomplished. This is how you know you are working towards something and in addition, it might be the most
